Cherubim

With overwhelming excitement we introduce a new custom offering at Swell Bicycles: Cherubim! Started in 1966 Hitoshi Konno set out to build competition bicycles which straddle the intersection of hand craftsmanship and innovation. Fast forward to today and his son Shinichi is at the helm, advancing the brand to new levels of function and elegance. Cherubim’s fusion of tradition and cutting edge speaks to us because that’s who we are.

Pictured is my vintage 1980s Hitoshi Konno built Rando bike. Nitto Moustache bars, Gilles Berthoud saddle, Shimano 9 speed Dura Ace/XT, and a Soma Rando bag complete the build. Framesets start with a fit, then they are hand fabricated and painted, and then we'll build it up into your dream bicycle.

Soma Fabrications

Soma frames are designed in San Francisco and hand made in Taiwan. What sets them apart is that they prioritize using high quality Tange Prestige tubing for a better ride quality.

I have been building Soma frames and stocking their products for the past 24 years and love working with this terrific local brand. Soma offers a comprehensive range of steel bikes for any style of riding.

Pictured is a past model, the San Marcos sport touring road bike with 650B wheels for a smooth, stable ride, Brooks saddle and bar tape, and a Nitto rear rack for carrying gear.

Marin Bikes

Starting with their first mountain bicycles in 1986, Marin Bikes are made for fun. My first mountain bike was a Marin Muir Woods that I bought when I began high school.

While Marin continues to excel in the mountain bike category, they have a diverse offering. We primarily stock gravel bikes and hybrids. Like Giant, Marin owns their factory and this allows them to offer a terrific value and have more control over production.

Pictured is the Marin Nicasio steel gravel bike. This is one of our favorites for a versatile do-everything bicycle.

Breezer

When Joe Breeze hand-built the first modern mountain bike in 1977, Breezer became the world’s first mountain bike brand. As a lifelong cyclist who raced on the road and dirt and toured all over the world, Joe had dedicated his life to making bikes for every level of rider. Joe aimed to create bicycles with one goal: to deliver a bike that has a light and lively ride quality and that will put a smile on your face every time you head out the door for whatever adventure you choose.

Pictured is the Breezer Inversion Team steel gravel bike. This is another of our favorites for a light do-everything bicycle. â€‹â€‹â€‹
